~ Ine of the most striking characteristics of the Stone Forest, 石林, east of Kunming, was the complete absence of any sort of visitor other than the conspicuously wealthy and privileged…sky-high entrance tickets and the inconvenient location both serve as barriers limiting entry to the elite…most visitors were dressed in business suits, smoking and loudly bantering…costly camera gear was in evidence but it was apparent that the owners had infrequently used it…it was all something of a production, with an air of artificiality, beyond the rocky crags themselves
