~ It was only after returning to Beijing from Kenya that I learned that Scopus umbretta, Hamerkop, is a heron…the distinctive shape and plumage wouldn't tend to suggest a heron…these close range images at the conclusion of our visit to Lake Nakuru National Park include examples of the Hamerkop hunting for food in shallow water
