~ After the safari van parked at Rhino Valley Lodge, we walked to the entrance for lunch...looking on the concrete beside a volcanic rock wall, I saw a small dark maroon crab...it was Potamonautes sp., a freshwater crab...the manager told me that she regularly saw the crabs coming and going in the lodge's small decorative pool...this expanded my awareness of macroinvertebrates in East Africa...apparently Potamonautes sp. is detritovorous, and is a major dietary component for freshwater predators
