~ At the entrance gate of Tsavo West National Park it notes lava as being a feature...this series shows the lava area, originally associated with the much larger eruption of Mt. Kilimanjaro...much of the igneous rock remains bare, apart from the early colonization of lichen and a few hearty botanical specialists, including a small fig with fruit...a hill of black volcanic soil was stark evidence of the presence of volcanic activity, fairly recently in geological time...the pyroclastic mud flows, lava feathers and greyish muddy rocks are evidence of what was once a turbulent era
