~ After walking up the small hill from the reed beds, there was a small planting of sumac…our timing was ideal, as the once-per-year scarlet foliage was brightening the landscape…I asked our sharpshooter photographer friends to pose for group and individual portraits with the vibrant scarlet background…they also obligingly photographed me, leaving a record of this autumn's distinctive colors in Beijing
