~ Upon spotting this male Falco tinnunculus, Common Kestrel, it was apparent that a special photo opportunity was occurring. Despite our proximity, the kestrel did no more than glance downward at us, continuing its surveillance of the area. The beauty of its plumage was more than matched by the sheer power of its flight when it took wing. The consequences of natural selection have shaped this species into an organism of extraordinary grace and athleticism. These images are one of the highlights of the entire multi-day safari.
