~ The raucous bird noises which attracted out attention was a gathering of Scopus umbretta, Hamerkop, in and around a secluded waterhole along an obscure track...from time to time Scopus umbretta gather in ritual ceremonies, which include false mounting on one another's backs, as shown in this series...we observed their distinctive behavior for several minutes, enthralled by what was unfamiliar to our limited experience
