~ The safari van rounded a bend to encounter Syncerus caffer, African buffalo, crossing the track...the herd was in grass so tall that they weren't visible until they walked out...it was possible to gradually come within a few meters distance of them — essentially point-blank range...a calf had noticeably lighter brown coloration...Ni pointed out a large gathering below a ridge we drove on with numerous elephant droppings in the track...an aged male Syncerus caffer bull was our final sighting of these powerful Tsavo West denizens
