~ The morning game drive on the second day at Porini Lion began at 6:15 am. Dawn light was low as sunrise wasn't yet near with a heavy occluding mist in the air. I'd stood outside the tent at 5 am watching stars, planets and clusters on the Ecliptic, as had Camp Manager Harry, himself an avid astronomical observer. A kindly security guard had brought tea and biscuits, as well as warm water for a shower. Other guests departed for a balloon ride. A camera battery was left in the camp office to charge. We'd not driven very far when Derek noted the presence of a pair of Otocyon megalotis, Bat-eared Fox. They ran to a large termite mound, examining a large den-like entrance. Using high ISO, it was possible to photograph them despite the low light and mist. A most auspicious beginning to the game drive, with no other guests.
