~ Monday, 4 November, will be my 60th birthday…on that day I'll be in Singapore's Sungei Buloh Nature Reserve photographing wildlife and vegetation…I mentioned a few books that I'd enjoy reading to three friends who are now working and studying in the United States…this evening I received them from ZHAO Zhilei (赵志磊), who presented them to me as gifts from ZHANG Yan (张岩), QIU Wenhui (邱文晖) and HUANG Xin (黄昕)…the two nature photography books and the contemplative ecology book will raise my awareness of the spiritual underpinnings of using cameras to reflect nature's beauty…the latest Donna Leon novel continues a series I've enjoyed, both as regards its characters and as to the city of Venice, Italy itself, which I'll revisit in late January, 2014
