~ These macro images were taken at a distance by the EF 400mm f/2.8L IS II super telephoto lens, showing a blister beetle, Epicauta hirticornis, of the Meloidae…LIN Guoming spotted this beetle, kindly bringing it to my attention on a tree trunk near the circular path atop Kwan Yin mountain…this beetle is highly toxic to humans, as it produces cantharidin, an irritating blistering agent which severely damages internal organs if ingested…its scarlet head contrasts well with its flat black body
