~ Early in the morning I rose after a restful sleep with an unexpected frisson. I'd heard a faint sound like a call to prayer or jets overhead, soon followed by a loud sawing sound which went directly past the tent, as something rubbed against the rear tent panel. The staff asked me if I'd heard the Black Rhino and the Leopard which had passed through the camp during the night. Indeed I had, I told them. The Sun wasn't yet up, but birds were singing. In dim light I photographed a small bird, not recognizing it. Two years to the day later, I identified it as Apalis flavida, Yellow-breasted Apalis.
