~ The final morning game drive in Kenya's Samburu National Reserve was in the eastern zone where large spreading acacias growing along ‘luggas’ (= dry river bed) were covered with light blooms...Anthony Gitau, my perceptive guide and friend, drove us close to a mountain seeking any sign of a cheetah, passing by both Beisa Oryx and Grevy's Zebra...this Melierax poliopterus, Eastern Chanting Goshawk, 灰歌鹰, was perched on a snag beside the rocky track, enabling this handheld portrait taken at a distance of about 2 meters at 9 am...it's dedicated to Eugene, Oregon birder, composer-pianist, long distance runner and naturalist Thomas Meinzen
