~ A small waxbill, Uraeginthus ianthinogaster, Purple Grenadier, is a species which recalls my childhood. My family had an aviary, in which various finches lived. Purple Grenadiers were among the collection. Seeing a male Uraeginthus ianthinogaster in its native habitat, free to fly where it liked, was delightful.
